Writing By Degrees is truly an extraordinary conference--put on by graduate
students, for graduate students, it combines a sophistication about the art
of creating literature with a fresh passion for the subjects it embraces.
The panels showed a terrific range of topics (electronic publishing and a
previously undiscovered Sylvia Plath poem!) and the readings were
spectacular--not just powerful keynote readers but graduate student readings
that showed the future direction of American letters. A very exciting couple
of days I would eagerly return to.
